I’ve been using my Y! ID since HS. Remember the days where it’s cool when you have a favorite number and you append that number to your name or etch that number in your arm chairs? I have a favorite number, that number was even my call sign when I was a CAT officer. I love that number to bits till now. Although my Y! ID wasn’t really that bad, it just wasn’t for my age.
Ever since I’ve started working, I’ve wanted to change my Y! ID. Something fit for YM and emailing. Imagine the feeling when a cute guy co-worker asks me for my YM ID or email add so we could talk about “work”. Good thing I had my gmail account that I could use for formal emails. Although recently, I’ve been using my gmail account for more personal stuff. But, I rarely find people using gTalk (even I rarely use it).
It was hard though, changing something that you were used to having for more than 10 years. You see, I get attached to certain things easily, like my blanket that I had since college, or the Barbie dolls that I rarely played with as a kid but opted to have them here in the apartment. Same thing in the digital world (I read my blog posts way way back with the what-the-hell-was-I-thinking face but can’t face to delete it).
What made me finally decide to go for it? I looked at it this way: changing my Y! ID is a way to let go of the past that still haunts me. Sure I have good memories, but there are bad ones too. I also realized that I have my whole life ahead of me to make new memories. But I have to start now since I’m not getting any younger.
I feel stupid though, because I realized all of this just because of my Y! ID.
So anyway, Y! ID is the same as my Gmail username. Add me if you want to.
Hopefully next time, I can purge my old blog posts.

It’s a bit late, but congrats on your new Yahoo! ID. Have you tried the new Y! Mail?
